Yesterday, we covered the Ubisoft briefing at the LA Theatre. Today, we had a chance to stop by their E3 booth and get the VIP “line-jumping” tour. At their booth, the main focus was on three core games:

  • Driver: San Francisco
  • Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
  • Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
There were also demos set up for Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, Shaun White Skateboarding, and Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. 2 (which was mysteriously absent from the briefing yesterday, but discussed here).

For our thoughts and more information, read on.

Driver: San Francisco

Building on the roots of the series, the newest installment will be set in San Francisco. Coming in at a whopping 60 frames per second, the key feature is “Shift,” allowing you to swap your car mid-pursuit. The best illustration of this was shown in our gameplay demo: When playing as a police car active in a pursuit, we were instantly able to switch to another cop car to gain the edge on our opponent. Little did the robber know that we were also able to switch to an oncoming truck, ending his day as a criminal on the run. Driver San: Francisco also features a very large map, covering over 200 miles of roadway, and you are able to shift into any car featured in the map.

First off, if you haven’t seen the trailer for this game yet, you need to. The main aspect in this game is that of the “Brotherhood.” Playing as Ezio, you now have your brothers at your disposal, for everything from “air assassinations” to “arrow showers.” Being able to control them allows you to take down multiple enemies much quicker, and makes mass battle scenes go down easier. (Pointed out by a dev in the above picture)

Also, at the request of fans, the crossbow is now available as an in-game weapon. Look for more unannounced details on Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood soon, and on store shelves on November 16, 2010.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

While we’re not able to show you the demo that we saw, we can say that GR:FS concentrates on the core name of the series: Ghost Recon. Donning the new optical camouflage suit, you and your squad can now sneak up on targets undetected. (With the game set in the future, the suit turns you near-invisible.) While the battery on the suit is limited, (wouldn’t be much of a game otherwise) it still plays a large role in the close-hands combat portion of the game. Also added to the game is a new Orbital Scanner, to help keep you aware of your surroundings.

Another cool aspect to the game was the group assassinations, similar to what Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood presents. In the demo we watched, our squad snuck up on a group of 4 enemies. We snapped the neck of one of them, and watched the other three fall within a fraction of a second. The coolest aspect of this was the sight-trails that were shown before the shots was fired.
