Sonic is back! We took the VIP tour of the SEGA booth and took a look at all four of their upcoming Xbox titles. While they’ll be releasing the first of the Dreamcast-ported titles “very soon” (Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure), Vanquish and Sonic Free Riders are still several months away. Read on for some photos and our full impressions.

Vanquish is an upcoming 3rd person shooter directed by Shinji Mikami (the creator of the Resident Evil series). Set 200 years in the future, the game centers on a war between the US and Russia, as the two remaining superpowers of the world vie for the remaining world’s resources. Using your technologically-advanced ARS suite, the reactor inside provides you with special powers, and an ever-changing, ‘morphing’ gun. Vanquish is also filled with lots of ‘eye candy,’ and the graphics are absolutely stellar.
While a precise release date has not been set, Vanquish is set to launch later this Winter.

As for Sonic, SEGA was showing off two titles, the first being a Kinect-based title. In Sonic Free Riders, you play as one of 6 characters from the Sonic world, and use Kinect to control your racer. Unfortunately details are still slim, and the demo was closed off to SEGA employees only, but it was still fun to watch. Look for Sonic Free Riders to launch later this year.
The other Sonic title being shown by SEGA was Sonic Adventure. First announced just over a week ago, it is simply a remastering of part of the original Sonic series on Dreamcast. While the exact gameplay isn’t exactly ‘new’, the new high-definition graphics look excellent, as does the remastered sound. Look for Sonic Adventure to hit Xbox Live Arcade “very soon.”

Crazy Taxi is the second title to be ‘remastered’ from Dreamcast to Xbox Live Arcade. However unlike Sonic Adventure, this title did not seem to have been remastered at all. While it wasn’t possible to accurately analyze the sound, the graphics look like a straight port from the Dreamcast. Even with the title still providing the same replay value as the original, it’s not an Xbox 360 caliber game without HD graphics. Like Sonic Adventure, you can also look for Crazy Taxi to hit Xbox Live Arcade “very soon.”
