Single Player Add-Ons
Available as soon as the download is finished, The Kaiser’s Battle appears as a separate campaign to the original Toy Soldiers campaign allowing for players to jump right into the fray. However, the difficulty level of the three DLC missions is high enough to be challenging for new players of Toy Soldiers but is relatively easy for experienced players, so you might want to hold off playing until you finish the first campaign.
That said, The Kaiser’s Battle adds a lot to the original Toy Soldiers experience, namely the entirely new French Army faction. Although all the factions use re-skins of the same unit, the French get two new units this time: The Hotchkiss Machine Gun and the Canon de 75 Howitzer. Both are entirely remodeled from their British and German counterparts, and bring a refreshing new look to the frontlines.
The new Survival Mode pits one player against wave after wave of enemy soldiers, with each wave bringing more, stronger soldiers to the battlefield. Similar to the Left 4 Dead series’ Survival Mode, Gears of War 2’s Horde Mode, and the others just like it, it provides a challenging and fun fight with endless combinations and attempts.
Multiplayer Add-Ons
The Kaiser’s Battle adds two new multiplayer maps to the playlist, Georgette and Mountain of Reims. Both offer a new look to the online battlefields, although you can’t play as the French online (both locally and on Xbox LIVE). Regardless of the faction choices, it doesn’t make the game any less fun.
Conclusion
The Kaiser’s Battle brings a new perspective to the Toy Soldiers experience for the small price of 400 MS Points or $5.00. Although the multiplayer content is limited to two new maps and the French Army is unplayable in multiplayer, the amount of content that comes with its small price makes it more than worth the purchase… if you’re a fan of Toy Soldiers, of course.
