sfa03The Digest: While the promise of new character skins and weapons is delivered, there’s one major problem with this specific piece of Downloadable Content: No one is playing the new gametypes. With the price of the content pack costing exactly half the price of the game itself, it’s really hard to think of any other legitimate reasons to purchase this, other than to look pretty.

When I reviewed Snoopy Flying Ace, it was an awesome game. Heck, it still is to this day. With the Suppertime of Destruction DLC pack releasing, players can now pay 400 Microsoft Points to obtain one of the most cheap weapons I’ve ever seen in almost any game, along with a ton of plane skins and pilot costumes. It’s basically paying to become a superweapon.

Due to the fact that the download itself is only 400 kilobytes or so, it’s safe to assume that there’s no actual content you’re downloading, but that it’s an unlock code for things already in the game. Because of this, you can take everything within this Add-On to other matches that have people who haven’t purchased the “content.”

Below is a video of the new character costumes you’ll be able to use.

As you can see, the majority of this content pack is nothing but cosmetic things. I’m not sure about you, but when I’m playing Snoopy Flying Ace, I just pick a character with his or her default costume, the plane with the default paint job, and my weapons. My main priority isn’t how my plane looks, but the opposing planes looks being demolished by my rockets and bullets. Most of the time in gameplay, the enemy is so far away that you won’t be able to make out the plane’s skin, let alone the pilot in it.

The three new weapons aren’t necessarily overpowered or underpowered. They’re decent at best, and aren’t going to pull you away from your favorite weapon set anytime soon. The best weapon, however, isn’t one of the equipable weapons. It’s permanently on one of the two new planes: Snoopy’s Whirlybird Helicopter.

This weapon is incredibly overpowered. If you watch the video, you’ll see that the Whirleybird is pretty much an instant kill with every shot.

Yes, that’s a one-shot kill weapon in Snoopy Flying Ace.

What’s worse is that, since it’s a Sniper Rifle, you can zoom in with it, snagging a long range shot with ease. The Whirleybird is also the only vehicle in the game that lets you hover in the air, allowing  you to camp in the air and one-shot people from across the map. While it’s definitely fun to use, being at the receiving end of the sniper rifle isn’t. Don’t bother with the other Avatar-exclusive plane, the Dragonfly. I couldn’t get any kills with it after a few games.

There’s also about five new gametypes available with the Destruction Pack, although they don’t really matter when absolutely no one is playing them online. I tried multiple times on different days for even one lobby to open up on any gametype. No lobbies ever appeared.

Conclusion: If you’re into getting a ton of kills and being top on the team for every match, get the DLC. It’ll give you a weapon that’s designed just for that. Everything else in this DLC just isn’t worth paying half the price of the game to unlock. Especially when the most exciting thing about this DLC, the new gametypes, aren’t even being played by anyone online. Everyone else can go ahead and skip this DLC.

PROS CONS
- Woodstock gets his own helicopter
- New Achievements
- Overpowered Sniper Rifle promotes camping
- No one is playing the new gametypes
