Next Week’s New Games: 6-23-2009

June 19th, 2009 G. Blake Mitchell No comments

First up we have Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires. Dynasty Warriors is one of those series that seems to have been around forever, yet I have never played a game and really have no desire to. Maybe you do? The game is developed by Omega Force and KOEI and apparently is a hack and slash game set in China way back when, or at least that is what Wikipedia is telling me.

Halo 3: ODST Play as Sgt. Johnson

June 19th, 2009 G. Blake Mitchell 2 comments

I am not much one for reinventing the wheel, so as an overview, preorder Halo:3 ODST and you can play as Sgt. Johnson in the Firefight game mode. Sgt. Johnson, is a non playable character human from earlier in the series.

Now, here is the rest of the text from the press release telling you all of the reasons that you should buy ODST, including new maps (which you may or may not have already paid for), new story, and guaranteed access to the Halo:Reach beta upon its release. Then I have embedded a video of firefight for those of you who have not seen it yet.

Online Petition/Halo: ODST Rant

June 12th, 2009 G. Blake Mitchell 3 comments

As, I wrote the other day, Bungie has made it a requirement that one owns the Halo Mythic Map Pack in order to play ranked matches on Halo 3. The mythic maps are being released along with Halo:ODST in September. I, and I am sure there are others, decided to wait until ODST came out to get those maps, however I play Team Slayer all of the time and I could no longer do it because of this change from Bungie. That being said I started an online petition and would like to see as many signatures on it as possible.

Reasons for the petition:

1. If I paid full price for a game, I should not have to pay for map packs in order to access all of the features of the game. It might be more understandable if there were a notice before hand or if it was simply for access to new content. However, blocking certain features until one makes a purchase is black mail.

2. I should not have to pay for one product twice. I was planning on waiting on getting these map packs until the release of Halo:ODST. There should be some type of credit given back so that a customer is not paying for the same product twice.

3. Do not say a game is going to be one price and then make it another. Plan better or keep your mouth shut. Bungie first said that ODST was going to be less than full price. Now they are saying it will be full price.

These are just a few complaints. I for one hope that Bungie does the right thing and promises to give me my measly money back upon purchase of ODST. Other wise I will refrain from purchasing.

View and sign the petition here.

Next Week’s Games, To Be Released 6-16-09

June 11th, 2009 G. Blake Mitchell No comments

Recapping this past week we had Prototype, Tiger Wood’s PGA Tour 2010, and Virtual Tennis 2009.

This coming week we only have two games that are set to come out on the Xbox 360.

The first game is Ghostbusters. Cue the theme song. This is the first Ghostbusters game since 1993. It has a completely new storyline independent from the movies and was written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis. It will also feature the voices of all 4 of the original Ghostbusters, the two mentioned before along with Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray. Unfortunately, Rick Moranis is retired and declined to participate. I have, as of this point, been unable to confirm that it was because he was awaiting a Honey I shrunk the Kids game. Read more…

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Updated Character list

June 10th, 2009 G. Blake Mitchell 1 comment

As you may have seen yesterday, we have recently received some updated video of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, and I thought just to make sure that everyone understands how much I am looking forward to this game, I would post the updated character list that was released today.

Marvel has released the list of the following: Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Human Torch, Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, Thing, Wolverine, Storm, Daredevil, Spiderman, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Song Bird, and Dead Pool. In addition to all of those, there will be an exclusive Juggernaut character for anyone who preorders from Gamestop.

If you are interested in looking at the page from Marvel, head on over. They have bios on all of the characters listed if you want more details.

So, what do you think about the list? There are some characters that I could care less about, **cough** Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Song Bird **cough**, but I would like to see more, and maybe some characters who are lesser known (even though I cam complaining about the 3 least known characters in the game thus far.) Who would you like to see on this list?

Where is the hulu love?

June 9th, 2009 G. Blake Mitchell 4 comments

Just a couple of weeks ago there was a bit of a stir (one of many links) created by none other than G4’s Attack of the Show co host Olivia Munn over a tweet from her twitter account mentioning Microsoft and Hulu together. This was before E3 and many people thought, or more appropriately hoped that there would be an upcoming announcement at E3 about a partnership. Now E3 has come and gone and while we did get some good news about upgrades on Xbox Live regarding Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm, and downloadable content, Hulu was nowhere to be seen.

Hulu for those of you who have been living under a rock over the last few years is an online television streaming service that consists of several different television companies owning a large stake. You can watch many show the day after they air on television in standard definition or in 420p. Hulu started with Fox and NBC as well as some of their smaller channels providing content. ABC has since joined the fray, and it seems that the Hulu train just keeps tracking, what with the release of a standalone desktop application and going into countries outside of the US in addition to the ABC deal. Hulu’s quality is not all that great, but as someone who has gotten rid of cable and satellite and watches all of their television streaming or downloaded from the internet. it is pretty nice.

So what was the stir all about. Apparently it was just something to do with Bing, Microsoft’s new search engine and some advertising on Hulu, with Munn involved in the ads. It stinks to get your hopes up, but there may be a silver lining. In an interview with G4’s Patrick Klepek, Xbox Executive John Schappert, when asked about Hulu on Live said, “I will say that we are always — I think as evidenced by our partnerships that we’ve announced — we’re always looking at new opportunities,”"I will say that we are always — I think as evidenced by our partnerships that we’ve announced — we’re always looking at new opportunities,”We’re always looking for new opportunities” and “it takes a while to form these relationships.” That definitely sounds like a step in the right direction for the possibility of geting Hulu over Xbox Live. Now if we could just get the networks to agree to live streaming.

New Marvel Ultimate Alliance Trailers

So, for those of you who are just getting to know us on the staff, I am a huge nerd. Most of us who are willing to spend time writing about video games will fall into that category. I am a comic fan. Yeah. So I am very excited about the upcoming Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 game coming out from Activision. If you did not play the first game I recommend it if you are a fan of comics, especially Marvel. It was not a phenomenal game and was built for last generation systems and thrown on disks for current gen when it was released. However, it is fun to play, and leaves me anticipating the next game.

More after the break.

Mythic Maps Now Required…

June 4th, 2009 G. Blake Mitchell 5 comments

So for those of you who still play Halo, and are fans of Team Slayer, guess what???? You now can’t play Team Slayer unless you have the Mythic Map Pack. That’s right, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE MYTHIC MAP PACK TO PLAY TEAM SLAYER. Now, I probably should have gotten the Mythic Map Pack before now, but I haven’t, and I play Halo, and specifically Team Slayer a lot, so I am a little ticked off about this. The Legendary Map Pack was never required to play Team Slayer, so I am really confused. Is Bungie so broke for cash that they have to throw this stipulation in there to increase revenues? Also, this map pack is going to be included in Halo:ODST, but do you think there will be any credit given for those who bought these map packs? I don’t. On top of all of that, when ODST comes out it is going to be $59.99 even though they said it was not going to be a full priced game.

So what gives Bungie? Do I need to put a jug on the checkout of my local grocery store asking for donations for Bungie? Perhaps we can have a candy bar drive?

Seriously though, I know once with Rainbow Six Vegas they released a map pack for free and they gave credit back to accounts that had purchased it. I would like to see Bungie do the same thing for people who buy ODST. I think a petition is in order.

Next Week’s Releases

Every Thursday I am going to try to get up a post about the following week’s game releases for the 360.

Tiger Woods, the best idiot face maker in the PGA

Next week will se the release of Tiger Wood’s PGA Tour 2010. This year’s installment of everyone’s favorite annual golf game with a wealthy famous man in a red shirt on the cover, probably making a stupid face.

The rest of next week’s games are after the break. Read more…

Castlevania Returns, Kojima Style

This guy knows how to make a game.

This guy knows how to make a game.

If you are anything like me, you own an Xbox 360, you love Hideo Kojima, and are glad to see the MGS game getting some play for team green. Well, now we have a trailer for a new Castlevania Game scheduled for 2010 to come out on Xbox 360 and PS3. Watch the trailer after the break. It looks really nice, and the music sounds great, a staple for any Castelvania game. Hopefully there is some innovation in this game though, as it looks to borrow stylistically from many of the action games that are around, notably Devil May Cry.

Edit*** I could not get the embed to work, so do not worry about the break and hit this link.
