March 5th, 2010 Greg Halter No comments

tecmo bowl throwbackTECMO KOEI AMERICA recently announced the release of Tecmo Bowl ThrowBack coming to Xbox Live Arcade in Spring 2010.  And I say it is about time.  Anyone who had a NES or an SNES can remember the hours wasted playing your friends or families and the trash talk of who was the best Tecmo Bowl player of all time.  I know I have a few personal scores to settle with my brothers.  Here is the overview from Tecmo:

TECMO BOWL THROWBACK brings back the gameplay you loved, and stays true to the Tecmo Super Bowl legacy! Challenge friends in online multiplayer mode in either the classic 2D style or in the new, modern 3D graphics. Local and online multiplayer mode is up to two players.

Some of the features included in the new Tecmo Bowl Throwback:

  • Online Multiplayer
  • 2D and 3D Graphics
  • Customizable Teams and Rosters
  • Online Leaderboards
  • Classic Game Modes

So save up your MS Points and get ready to click and clack your way to victory when Tecmo Bowl Throwback hits Xbox Live Arcade this Spring.

Avatar Boogie hits XBL

February 21st, 2010 Rich Ball No comments

Avatar Boogie
Of course YOU know your avatar has moves – it’s a mini you, right? Well now you can show off your fancy footwork in Avatar Boogie, new to XBL for 80 MSP.

The psuedo-game features a number of dance arenas, tons of hip-shaking moves, and can host up to 50 avatars on-screen at a time. How cool will this be on the tv at your next party, to have your friends’ avatars boogying down in 1080p? Like most 360 games, you can use your own soundtrack via XBox music or streaming.

Disappointingly, the game is one-player local, though we hope that publisher Danimal will update the title to include online dance parties and local multiplayer control. On the other hand, it’s hard to complain for a buck.

NBA Jam Revival?

January 6th, 2010 Allen Kim No comments

A rumor has been going around recently that the next XBLA game coming from EA Sports will be a personal childhood favorite, NBA Jam.  While there has been no official word or response from EA, one can only hope that this is true.  Regardless, I believe it’s only a matter of time before NBA Jam will be remade.  Just the thought of using Big Head mode and playing with Bill Clinton makes me feel nostalgic.

First set of unlockable awards now available

October 27th, 2009 Patrick Kortendick No comments

image

Remember that new feature introduced in the Summer title update which allowed for in game avatar awards? Well, it seems that the first game to utilize this feature is finally doing so. Twisted Pixel’s ‘Splosion Man now allows for unlockable in-game awards, in the form of t-shirts. The first award is simple, while the second one requires beating the entire co-op campaign.

Hopefully this will amount to more games using this feature, as opposed to having to pay for avatar content (i.e. Gears of War, Halo, etc.).

Award-Winning Sequel to Peggle Will Bring Exclusive Multiplayer Features and Great New Gameplay to XBLA Players This Fall in Anticipated Expansion Pack

SEATTLE, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ — PopCap Games, the leading developer and publisher of broadly appealing video games, today announced the upcoming launch of Peggle(TM) Nights on the Xbox LIVE Arcade (XBLA) online service of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 video game console. Tuned specifically for the XBLA player, Peggle Nights is an expansion for the original Peggle (XBLA) and includes all the levels and challenges from the PC and Mac versions of Peggle Nights – along with the ability to play all the new Nights content in the exclusive multiplayer modes found only on XBLA. The Peggle Nights expansion pack will be available for download exclusively on Xbox LIVE this fall.

Peggle Nights is the top-selling follow up to the award-winning game franchise, Peggle, whose XBLA version quickly became a fan favorite of Xbox LIVE Arcade players earlier this year. Peggle Nights will feature all the great gameplay of the original PC version as well as the ability to battle friends and foes, and compare Peggle prowess in the 4-player Peg Party and 2-player Duel modes, the only online multiplayer modes available in any of the many Peggle adaptations to date.

Features in the Peggle Nights expansion pack for XBLA will include:

-- 60 new Peggle Nights levels for multiplayer over Xbox LIVE and all
      single player/local modes
-- Peggle Nights Adventure mode (60 levels), including the Nights story

bringing Peggle up to a total of 250 gamerscore.

“The addictive and fun gameplay of the Peggle franchise translates extremely well when tuned for the XBLA platform,” noted Sukhbir Sidhu, co-creator of Peggle and studio chief at PopCap. “Since launching earlier this year, Peggle for XBLA earned top awards from industry critics while taking full advantage of the XBLA multiplayer format to deliver an incredible gameplay experience. Peggle Nights essentially doubles the size of the Peggle XBLA universe for players everywhere.”
