Bungie’s latest update went into some detail on what’s going on behind the scenes with Halo Reach. We’ve got some new images and a bunch of information to keep your Reach thirst quenched.
One of the first things they talk about are the vehicles. Fans have been flooding them with questions about their beloved warthog, ghost, and tanks and Bungie delivers.
-
- Overall vehicles are “much, much meatier” than they were in the Beta.
- Vehicles will no longer just explode on their own, “GTA style.” Vehicles will only blow up from direct player damage. So, no more killing an opponent and flying away only to have your flaming vehicle suddenly explode on you.
- Vehicle damage will now partially transfer to the player, just like you’re used to in Halo 3. You’ll see this represented in your own shield/health meter as your vehicle takes damage.
- Even cooler – the damage that a player takes depends on the location of the damage being done relative to the player. So, if you throw a grenade underneath a Warthog, the driver is going to take a little bit of damage. If you throw a grenade into the sun roof or windshield, the driver will take significantly more damage.
It’s no secret that the Service Record page just wasn’t there. Now we’ve got an image of the new Service Record page below.

Yesterday, Bungie’s Weekly Update was filled with some really cool Halo Reach images. The various medals that you’d get such as headshots, hammer sprees, or laser kills were always fairly small until now.
We’ve been shown some really nicely detailed images of the medals that we have all come to know and love. One of the medals is even for a Zombie Frenzy. We did not have the option to play “Zombies” in the beta, but now we know that it will be in the games release come September 14th. Check out the images after the jump.

As if the Armor didn’t look cool enough already.
We’ve got some really cool looking Armor permutations for those who pre-order the various copies of Halo: Reach. It was announced earlier today that the game will ship on September 14th of this year, and now we’ve got some benefits for those who are still waiting to pre-order the game for some reason. The armors shows below are not given with all of the pre-order packages.
With the standard edition of Halo Reach you will receive this new rendition of the Recon Armor that everyone sought after in Halo 3. It seems to also display the two separate portions, visor and ear piece, of the helmet that you will no doubt have to buy separately with the in game credit system.

After a very popular beta, it looks like Halo: Reach has received an official release date. According to an AP report, the game will hit shelves worldwide on September 14, 2010 (Sept 15 in Japan). Also detailed in the report are final numbers for the 18-day beta:
- 2.7 million players
- 1.1 million kills
- 16 million hours of gameplay
Very impressive numbers given the time length of the beta, and the need for ODST to play. If open to the public, one can imagine that those numbers would be much higher.

Originally planned to perish today, the Halo Reach Beta has been extended an extra day and will officially end tomorrow, May 20th, at 10 PDT. At least now you can say that you helped someone while playing video games and that you are a beta tester for a leading gaming studio. So take out your ODST disk and enjoy the last few hours of Halo Reach until it comes out this Fall. Hopefully the end of this Halo multiplayer series won’t be as long as the demise of Halo 2.

Anyone camping on their Xboxes for the Halo: Reach beta will be glad to know you can now access the beta though the Halo 3: ODST disc. I’m currently downloading it as we speak! You should be, too! And if you need a copy of ODST to access the beta, why not pick up a copy of Halo 3: ODST from GameStop? Just click the GameStop logo below to grab it for $35.99, and you’ll support Xbox 360 Digest in the process! A win-win situation for all of us, don’t you think?

Well, okay, maybe it doesn’t go into that much detail, but this new trailer shows how Carter 259 takes his final steps into joining the ranks of the Spartans. It seems a bit painful, but I wish gaining superhuman strength was as simple as a brightly colored injection.
This is also probably the first time a trailer of this quality has been made for a beta, so that must count for something, right?
The Halo: Reach beta starts May 3rd. If you haven’t gotten your copy of Halo 3: ODST… go quickly! It’s only $34 right now! (details here)
